On Tuesday, June 25th, the Durham Bulls partnered with Catholic Charities to host the first Pitch in for Charity event of the year! Through the Pitch in for Charity series, tickets are sold via a dedicated link, and a portion of each ticket sold is donated to a Catholic Charities program. For this event, proceeds will support the impactful work of the Durham Community Food Pantry, which distributes over 1.8 million pounds of food annually to its neighbors in need.
It was a sweltering evening as the Bulls took on the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs, in what was a fast-paced, action-packed game. The Ironpigs took the lead early on in the first inning through a solo homer, and increased their lead in the sixth to put the Bulls 3-0 down. The Bulls rallied however, and were within touching distance at 3-2 at the bottom of the seventh, before the Ironpigs took control at the top of the eighth and added six unanswered runs to end the game. It was a competitive, fiery affair and a great start to the series.
Despite the result, the night was a win for Catholic Charities. Jeremy Ireland, Piedmont Regional Director, shared, “This is our sixth year collaborating with the Durham Bulls for this event, and a sixth success. We are happy to be here, and happy to see and feel the community support. For us, The positive impact of this event extends beyond the funds raised, and we are proud to serve and be a part of such a caring community.
