Statement by Gary Skinner, Executive Director of Catholic Charities On August 24, members of a ministry serving the homeless in Moore Square in Raleigh were requested to halt their service that morning by Raleigh Police or face the threat of arrest. Currently, seven Raleigh area Catholic parishes have feeding programs at different times during the month in Moore Square. Catholic Charities to Assist Orange County Flood Victims

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh and St. Thomas More Parish are partnering with The Green Chair Project and Triangle Red Cross to provide assistance to victims of the June 30 – July 1 rainfall that caused flooding for some Orange County residents. The agencies are coordinating a furniture donation drive scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. They’re encouraging the public to donate household items such as couches, chairs, dressers, bed frames (but no mattresses), dining tables, lamps and household accessories. Catholic Charities Honors Ron and Jeanette Doggett at Annual Gala

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh held its Third Annual Celebrate God’s Gifts Gala Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Marriott Hotel in Raleigh. The event, hosted by the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, drew more than 300 people. The Gala serves as an annual fundraiser for the Diocesan agency. The highlight of the event is the presentation of the Bishop F. Gary Skinner Appointed Catholic Charities Executive Director

The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge has announced the appointment of Mr. Gary Skinner as executive director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh. Mr. Skinner was selected following a national search in which 19 candidates were seriously evaluated. The Catholic Charities Board of Directors unanimously recommended Mr. Skinner, who takes on the executive director role formerly held by Kathleen Walsh, who retired last year. Catholic Charities Receives $75,000 Grant from A.J. Fletcher Foundation

In December 2012, the A.J. Fletcher Foundation announced a three-year, $75,000 grant to Catholic Charities. The gift will benefit the Support Circle Program, which is an ecumenical effort coordinated by Catholic Charities and CASA, Inc., to help homeless families transition to permanent housing and improve their ability to earn more through job skills training. Catholic Charities received $35,000 of the grant in 2012. It will receive $25,000 this year and $15,000 in 2014.
